I remember that from an issue of House of Mystery that I used to have. How I had that issue, I'll never know but the ad was kind of cool.

Flipping through all the old comic books (Marvel Star Wars, mainly) that I've recently bought, it's interesting to see all of the old D&D ads that they used to have. There's also one where a frickin' DRAGON surrenders and gives up his hoard upon seeing the fighter. What level was that guy?!

I know I found a lot of these old ads somewhere online recently, when I was prompted to check after learning that some of the NPCs in Age of Worms were modeled after Grimslade, Indel, and Valerius. I'll try and track down that site and post a link if I find it.

[EDIT- That didn't take long. Here's one link: D&D Comic Ads

And another, with commentary by James "Mystaros" Mishler

Ah, yes. I didn't recognize the ad posted by the OP, but this one, I remember. :D

I remember wanting to know the rest of the story behind it, too. :)
