Some of the WotC products that have had the most vocal pushback online have been the same products people I play with have been most excited about.

WotC doesn't want to own a singular niche in the RPG field. Ideally, they'd like to be selling to everyone.

We seem to be "nu-uh"-ing multiple things that are all true.

They are marketing the game to 12-24 yo AND they still care about the demos that skew higher than that (many of whom will happily buy this book).

There's a reason that they are carefully including new material and updates and artwork and variant cover gimmicks and so on - they want to hit as many folks with as many reasons to buy it as possible.

I expect that we'll still see cries of "Disneyfication", even with that Strahd cover where he's clearly murdered a few people and is sitting back, enjoying a glass of their blood.

And sure, yeah, there's the sugar glider familiar, too - but it's a range. Maybe the range is broader than it used to be, but it's not like it's gone exclusively in one direction!

I'm all for a broad spectrum, and there appears to be some course correction, but if they mess up Dark Sun...then they really have gone too far in one direction.

I agree! However, what you and I think of as "messing up" Dark Sun is likely to be different - though, to be fair, with a sizable overlap (the broad strokes I expect would be the same, but I bet that I'd consider some details to be no biggie that you'd consider deal-breakers). I suspect that we're going to find out!
