Dungeons & Dragons "for dummies" edition?

I don't know how things are where you live, but every barnes and noble I've ever been in has rpg stuff. Usually by the sci-fi/fantasy books.

Even the little mall stores like waldenbooks and b dalton have rpg's. The only bookstores I've seen that don't have them are the non-chain (usually mostly used) bookstores and discount/closeout/overstock bookstores.

That's why i said "the local Barnes & Nobles"--i understand that ours is apparently unusual for not having RPGs. Locally, in addition to the 2 full-featured game stores, and a couple mostly-CCG stores that have D&D books, i can find RPGs in both Borders, both mall bookstores (Waldenbooks?), and both Half Price Books and all three Frugal Muse locations. So, yes, i can already find RPGs in lots of non-game stores, including most of the big chain bookstores. Just not B&N.

There used to be a modest selection of RPGs at the west-side B&N, but last time i went in there, i couldn't find anything, and the staff had never even *heard* of "Dungeons & Dragons", "RPGs" or "roleplaying games". I have yet to go into the new east-side B&N, in part because of this experience.

And, in any case, i'm still hoping that this book will show up in a more-general "self-help" section, rather than the RPG subsection of the scifi/fantasy section.

As opposed to the D&D Basic Game boxed set? :p

I see it as a way of "de-mystifying" the game for the mundanes — IOW, explaining the basics of the game for those who don't understand the concept in the first place.

y'know I am not sure I really want a bunch of "Dummies" knowing how to play D&D. I have enough trouble screening through the Power-Gamers and Uber-geeks and thier 100th level Paladins to find some decent people to game with.

You have all those bookstores within reasonable travel distance! I think I want to visti Madison.

Makes me wish that Fast Forward Games had come out with their Annoited Player's Handbook with notes by the Sage about why certain rules were done up the way there were and how to use them.

I may have to violate my "Never buy anything marketed for Dummies, Morons, or other obvious Idiots." Rule. Or maybe not.

As far as Dummies books themselves, the technical manuals are quite good. I found 'Linux Programming for Dummies' to be an excellent primer on Bash shell programming.

Within abt a 30 mile driving distance, I have 3 Waldenbooks, 2 Barnes and Nobles, one Borders, one used bookstore (Ed McKay's) and a B. Dalton's. Haven't been to the B. Dalton's in ages as I don't get to Winston-Salem much. I'm usually going to either High Point or Greensboro for my book-buying needs.
