Invoke Studios, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast, has announced Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock, a new video game due out for 2027. The game features a new character named Kaati, played by Tricia Helfer, and will be a third-person action-adventure game. Players will use spellcraft to "solve challenges and take down monsters" with players having some freedom in how they solve problems.

"We're not trying to simulate the tabletop RPG experience, so there is no dice-rolling in the game — we're trying to really deliver a video-game experience first," said Dominic Guay, studio lead at Invoke Studios, in an interview with IGN. "If you are not familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, you are not going to feel friction, like in that you're missing details of the world. But if you are a fan of the universe, you are going to be really excited about what we are doing with the lore of the series for Warlock."

Invoke Studios was previously called Tuque Games, and made the much-derided Dark Alliance game in 2021.

Gameplay will be revealed in 2026, with a planned release for 2027.

Seems more like PotB weapon summon mechanic than hexblade, but there may be a mechanic where you choose your patron in the game

To me it gave more GOOlock vibes than anything else
If they aren’t explicitly trying to reproduce the mechanics of the tabletop game, I don’t think the distinction between Hexblade and Pact of the Blade is all that meaningful. Both boil down to “warlock with a special bonded weapon.”

If anything, Warlock players will be eating good provided the game turns out good
Warlock has the perfect built-in premise for solo play. Your power comes from some external entity that likely has its own sinister agenda and is likely to assign you various tasks that might put you into conflict with other, more ordinary people. Start off gathering questionable materials for the creepy rituals your patron wants you to perform, gradually push the player character’s ethical boundaries, until eventually crossing a line, then switch gears into a “find a way out of your deal” story, and/or “use your patron’s power against them” story. Practically writes itself.

It would depend if the patron is the blade, then it's a hexblade; if not then its PotB. Though, like I said, I get more GOOlock vibes from the otherworldly elements in the trailer or Raven Queen (I know 2014 lore hexblade is associated with RQ, but this strikes me as more involved than that).

That could be cool, especially if it has a real impact on the game beyond your character sheet. Like, maybe you choose the Old Ones and get a more Lovecraftian horror-themed story and playthrough, or choose Hexblade for a more modern, gothy playthrough about ravens and revenge, or choose Fiend and go with the classic "escape the cult of devil-worshipers" story...

I think the Patron is already set in stone and I think its the Raven Queen, the Raven Feathers are a strong hint. This means yes she's a Hexblade.

I personally think its set in Ravenloft, nothing in the trailer screamed Forgotten Realms too me and they did say they were working on a game set in another setting then the Forgotten Realms.

I could be wrong.

Also Kaatri is being played by Canadian Goddess Tricia Helfer (she played the Goddess in Lucifer).

I'm conflicted, there seems to be alot to like here, but I'm not really into ARPGs.

Really sounds like the D&D take on the Witcher, but with a more D&D inspired magic system, lore, but with some Larian Studios style barrelmancy.

They aren't saying where its set yet, but the trailer gives me Ravenloft vibes.

I just don’t think that’s a distinction that’s going to translate well unless there’s specific effort dedicated to translating it, which it doesn’t sound to me like what they’re intending. The patron will surely be some mysterious and vaguely sinister entity, which may or may not communicate through the PC’s special bonded sword. Whether the entity is a fiend, or an aberration, or the sword itself… 🤷‍♀️ I don’t think the difference will be meaningful to someone who isn’t familiar with D&D, and since they’re explicitly aiming to make it accessible for such people, I don’t think the distinction will matter to the gameplay either.

I'd expect the pact to be a major part of the story and this kinda fixed. Though since they aren't bound by the DnD 5 rules, they could very well have a Warlock that has many pacts instead of just one. And I wouldn't be surprised that if there is a character build component, you can pick different builds, some more focused on melee, some more on eldritch blasts and spells.

I'd say it's a good trailer, great music, hot chick, nice monster selection, evokes some ideas on what it could be about. Game oculd still be anywhere from worst thing since [crappy game people use as example for this] to Expedition 33/Half Life 3 contender.

Is there no character customization? Perhaps that is the essence to feel like D&D.
Very good point! Could still be a fun game in its own right, but custom character creation is one of the strongest selling points of D&D and seems really strange for a D&D video game to leave on the table.

It's more open world action-adventure and not really a traditional RPG, according to the devs. I'd expect something more along the lines of GoW than Witcher.
