Duties of a Best Man

Thanks for the great replies.

The party (bachelor or not ;)) will be held one week before the wedding. I have still not decided what we'll do, as I still am not sure who/how many people will attend. The most likely activities will be:
- paintball in the afternoon (although that can get a little pricey)
- restaurant (If I can get a place at the medieval restaurant here in Montreal, I will, but I'm afraid they're booked solid)
- D&D game (if there aren't too many people)
- table hockey tournament (the groom is a meeeean table hockey player. If we get him drunk, maybe, just maybe some of us will eventually be able to beat him)

I organised bachelor party for my close friend last summer. We went with Mafia theme, the party was a test for the groom to be accepted into the family. Of course it was rather small group (7 persons including the groom). We we all dressen in suits and had also bought suit for the groom (second hand).

We started with fencing lessons (one hour private instruction, all could participate).
Second part was meeting with couple of friends that could not participate on the whole day. That was pretty much just chatting and laughing at the park.
Third part started with wonderfull movie quote: "Bring the guitars" (Desperado). First shoft air shootout and then the groom had to compose and present a ballad. (The groom was very musical).
Next task for the groom was to collect "protection money", from the animals of the park. We had one member of the group dressed as an hedgehog as the target.
Then we followed with some "car racing", which was executed with the bumber cars in the nearby Theme Park.
Dinner at italian restauran, which also allowed couple of more friend to be present at least for a short time. After that we continued to the Casino.
Last part was buryinh of the old girlfriends, which was done in nearby forest. Girlfriends were represented by small "coffin" props.
We ended the day with party (drinkin, grilling and having sauna) in the summer cottage of one of the friends. Everybody had super time.

Of course the theme would have allowed us to add visit to a strip club, but there were no need for that this time.

I'm actually going to be the groom next year and seeing as the all of my friends who I hope will be able to make it (it is overseas which makes it hard) are gamers I'm hoping for a big D&D/M:TG evening with a large helping of just chewing the fat.

Sorry for the hijack, but that sounds like flat out discrimnation to me. Because everyone in your group is male, they won't let you in? I wonder if you would have gotten that same answer if you were all female, for a "girls night out".

Their official policy (posted on their website) is any party of 14 or more must be composed of both men and women. By that the girls should have the same restriction. You can get managerial approval to avoid that restriction, but we didn't bother trying since we (the best man and I) didn't know about half the guys invited and could not vouch for their conduct.

I threw a bachelor party for my buddy a few years ago. We didn't have stippers, just a few porn films, a ton of beer, and lots of brats. We had a good time, but I was feeling it the rest of the weekend.

My friends will be throwing me one next summer. Chances are it will be at my friend's dad's shop where most of the bachelor parties in my hometown are held (at least for my group of friends). There will undoubtedly be strippers, a craps table, and copious amounts of booze. For the few guys that would be uncomfortable in those situations, I think the night before the wedding we're going to go golfing and then hang out at the hotel bar for a while just shooting the breeze.
