DVD drive tray keeps ejecting

Hello friends.
I have a desktop computer and I love it. Everything is working pretty fine except the DVD drive. For some reason my DVD drive tray keeps spitting out. Whenever I load any CD/DVD, after reading 5-6 seconds, drive ejects it back out. I tried some tricks to make it work properly, but had no success. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Need your help to fix it.

Thanks..

It sounds like your drive is not reading your DVDs ... this can be caused by:

region issues on films etc
badly burnt dvds
your drive's laser is out of alignment
dvds are simply dirty

Or, you're loading the DVD in "upside down" from the point of view of the drive.

Some drives want to see the DVD shiny side up. Even these days.

It's probably the gnomes that live inside your computer. When was the last time you fed them? Try putting a bagel, or a chocolate chip cookie in the drive, and see if it behaves well after the crunching and munching sounds of stopped.

Don't worry about the smoke - sometimes the gnomes like their bagels toasted...

More than likely the drive motor is bad. It's so cheap to get a replacement drive, it's not worth the fuss.

You can spend ~$40 and about 5-10 minutes of your time. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you can pay a professional about $50 to do it. As always, your mileage may vary.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. I had originally thought I had a software issue so reinstalled my OS. The problem continued afterwards, so I replaced the drive. I haven't tried the original drive in a different computer, but don't really care; the new one works fine. My guess is that my original is fried. I would recommend you try it in another computer to see if it works properly. Otherwise I would pull the laser out and create your own destructive laser. Info available around the net.
