e-mail attachments

First Post
Okay, this is frustrating me. I use outlook for e-mail and I have an attachment in an e-mail that I can't get to. When I click on the paper clip icon that shows there is an attachment it has the attachment but it cannot be selected. The properties of the e-mail show it to be over a meg so I know the attachment is there. I had hoped that out look just stored it somewhere on my computer, but a search for the file yielded nothing.

Anyone suggestions on how to get an attachment that doesn't seem getible?

If there are screen prints/pictures in the email, these are probably the attachments.

At work I see this all of the time, a end user has a problem and they take a screen print and paste it to the email and then send it to me so that it can be fixed. This is also a great way to send safe "email bombs" some of these emails take quite a while to load up when you try to open the message in outlook or just use the preview pane. :D

Not wanting to miss anything, have you tried opening the email, then using File/Save Attachment(s)? It sounds like you're just trying to open it from the preview pane.

Also, if you have the Outlook security update installed, certain file extensions are blocked if they arrive as the attachment (like .exe, .src, etc). There is no way around this that I know, and the only way to get rid of the update is to uninstall/reinstall the entire Office suite (thank you Microsoft). Usually, if the security update is blocking an attachment, you will receive a message to that effect.

Actually, I ran into the same problem and found this : http://www.visiontech.ltd.uk/software/ol2k2sec.html .
It works great. I can't be held responsible if you use it esp. at work. Also, not my software. Blah blah, don't blame me.

Aha!! OE decided to remove access to the file as it felt it was unsafe. So, looks like I'll have to try something else. Thanks guys.

Edit: Okay, that was wierd. I hit reply from that message that had the attachment and I could access the attachment that way. And the file was perfectly fine. Thanks again guys!! :D

Yup, have another one here that does the same type of thing:

http://www.slovaktech.com/attachmentoptions.htm

But again, I have not tried it, do not recommend it, don't ask me if it breaks your computer, etc, etc, etc. :)

I didn't recommend anything like this for just that reason.

Strange it let you forward it, according to Microsoft:

"If you forward an e-mail message with an "unsafe" attachment, the attachment is not included in the forwarded e-mail message."

So maybe that wasn't it.

Anyway, glad it worked out for you!
