[E.N.Pub] 4CTF Modern & Revised coming soon!

Yeah...

Unfortunately, that was a Natural 20 Press item...

Give me some time to work this out. The problem is that this revision is NOT just a few changes to the content, but includes significant outlay in time and money by ENPublishing after picking up the product line from Natural 20 Press. The final product here is 140 pages with twice the art content and an entirely new layout.

I'm not saying that this is an impossibility, but it would mean that those who worked on this would not be getting paid for their work in the revised edition.

I will comment further at a later date.

If I could offer a suggestion/compromise:

What was the date that Natural 20 Press became part of EN Publishing?

Perhaps people who purchased prior to/up to that date could get the Modern version free, and people who purchased the product afterwards could get the discount.

Personally, I picked up FCTF as an EN Publishing product, and I got it at a substantially reduced rate as part of the GM day sale earlier this year. I also feel strongly that people should be fairly compensated for their work and efforts. For many reasons, I would not feel right not paying my fair share. I pledge not to take advantage of my discount (assuming I get one) and purchase the modern version of this product at regular price to show my support for those in the PDF publishing industry.

I also decided to pass on the Polyhedron PDF Publisher bundle for similar reasons. The intent of that promotion was to get people who were not familiar with the PDF publishing industry interested, and I realize it was not meant for "one of the converted" such as me. In short, I've decided to "put my money where my mouth is" and support the PDF publishers whose work I respect and enjoy in my games.

I have been thinking a lot about this today.

I have come to realize two important things here - that it is, in fact, sort of a new company that is producing the work, although with the same title and theme, and also that these guys are a small D20 publisher mostly doing it for love of the work and the industry.

In thinking it over, I have really come to think that they shouldn't be offering it free - if it is as much more content as they say, then it should be worth some extra bucks, and hey - the offer of a discount on the new one for purchasers of the old one is more generous than WOTC was with 3.5!

They are a class act and a good company, and deserve my support when I can give it.

I would also like to apologize if I came off as whiny or petulant earlier.

I think a few different threads got crossed, which might have resulted in this confusion.

First, let me be the first to apologize that we didn't get FCTF-Modern out faster. The conversion process turned into a revision and conversion process, where we fixed a few numbers to balance things out, patched a few holes, and added in a few new bits because they were cool ideas.

Russ and I, way back in October last year, did discuss putting up a free .doc or .rtf file update with the revisions to d20 Modern, but once we realized how pervasive the changes would be, and how much we wanted to tweak some of the problems of the original, we decided to just go for a full new edition, which would be easier to read and more satisfying overall.

Now, for The Elements of Magic, we will be giving out the rules revisions for free, minus all of the cool flavor and GM advice. This has been mentioned several times, so perhaps someone confused the two revisions.

We've had the actual text done for a few months now, but other products took priority for actual layout. A few people who swung by the E.N. Publishing forum and asked what was up got a raw text file with the revised OGC, hardly easy to read, which was the best I could do since I have no Adobe Acrobat skills. But now that Jake has finished the daunting task of laying out all 140-odd pages, I'm sure you'll enjoy the book.

I'll be honest, there's nothing really flashy that's been added. The original ruleset was detailed enough that we didn't have to invent too much new stuff. But if you don't own the book at all, getting the modern and fantasy rules in one package is a steal. If you're been playing a d20 modern supers game with the stopgap fantasy supers rules, the reduced price we'll offer will likewise make the revisions a steal. If all you do is use the rules in D&D, and just want the balanced new costs, though, honestly, just email me and I'll send along the revised list of power costs.

Actually, Jake, what do you think about putting up the revised power cost table on the website as a freebie? It might attract some more attention to the revision.

I think the promo will be the revised hero class table and the revised power costs table. With those two tables, an owner of FCTF ver 1 will be able to use it with d20 modern, thus killing two birds with one stone - promotional material, free update!

I realize that this is going to be unpopular, but after seeing how this has developed, I no longer plan to purchase any EN Publishing products.

Either you stand behind public statements and promises that were made, or you do not. You have decided to ignore those previous promises. It is really disappointing to see EN Publishing do that.

Do not bother to send me any type of update 'coupon' offer for this product, or any of the other five products, that I have previously purchased. I am not interested.

I'm sorry that you have made this decision, and we will most certainly miss your business and more importantly your support.

The issue at hand is that E.N.Publishing never actually made a public OR private statement or promise that we would be releasing a free update for this Natural 20 Press product. We did not release this product originally, nor did we make any statements regarding how it (and other products) would be supported once E.N.Publishing took over the Natural 20 Press and Ambient Inc. product lines.

Also, as I stated in the last post I made, I will be releasing the revised hero class and revised power lists for FCTF-Modern as a free release, which can then be used with your original FCTF release in order to use it with d20 Modern, thus fulfilling the issue of a free update.

Further, I have -not- decided to ignore the possible Natural 20 Press promises. As stated in my prior post, "Give me some time to work this out... I will comment further at a later date." - if you feel this is ignoring the promise, that is your perogative.

When I said in my previous message that I did not wish to receive any offers from E.N. Publishing in the future, I meant it. Please remove my name from any and all lists that you maintain. I will list the products that I have purchased as an aid to expediting this.

Three Arrows for the King - The Archer's Guide (revised)
Kids Colouring Book o Critters - Celebrity Edition
Four-Color to Fantasy
Everyone Else (revised)
Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns
Librum Equitis Compiled

You know,

This would have been better in a private message or e-mail. Not to mention, this is done through RPGNOW if I'm correct?

We don't maintain any lists. The shop (RPGNow) does maintain lists of its customers as a matter of course and makes that info available to us on a product-by-product basis, but EN Publishing certainly doesn't have any customer lists or details. If you ask the store who sold you the product (i.e. RPGNow), they may be able to remove the record of your purchase, but I doubt it (they legally have to maintain records of their transactions, I'm sure).
