QuickShots: Mission File Alpha

Now available from RPGnow!

Modern d20 scenes and events to evoke a sense of weirdness in your campaign.

Quick Shots: Alpha is a collection of 20 adventure snippets, scenes, events and encounters designed around a common theme, all inject something strange and unexplained into a game.

From zombies & ghouls to classic urban legends and the Headless Horseman returned upon his hawg, each scenario includes stat-blocks for the characters presented as well as a few new monsters and a plethora of unexplained phenomenon.

Each Quick Shot includes two variants, ideas to twist the encounter around in a new direction or in a way that can lead to a full adventure, series of adventures or even as the springboard into a full campaign.

These encounters are perfect for a mostly 'straight' modern campaign looking to add a bit of supernatural or just unexplained phenomenon, or as almost typical day-to-day oddities that would occur if our world co-existed with a far stranger world we could barely grasp.

This zip file contains two editions of Quick Shots : Alpha. The first is a color screen edition for easy reading, the second is a black and white edition for printing without chewing through your ink cartridge(s).

Hellhound, you are running neck and neck with Philip Reed for my favorite, most prolific author.

I wish I still had the kind of time to sit around and dream up the quickies...

Looks great!

As much as D&D is swamped with adventure material, d20 Modern is suffering a drought in this area. Looks like you've got yourself a "must-have" product for D20 Modern. :)

Is the cover in violation of the d20 Modern trade dress agreement?

Looks awfully close to me, and even if it's not is it pushing the limits too far?

Thanks! Lately my time's been going to the house and the Dork Tower boardgame design. The final draft of the Dork Tower game is due in a week so once I get back from San Diego I'll be able to get back to my personal projects.

Actually, I worried about it a bit myself Wil (it's my personal design), and therefore ran it past Wizards to see if it was legit. It doesn't violate any of the trade dress rules according to their analysis and mine. The only one I was worried about is the "brushed aluminum", but this one is more "chrome". :)

That's good. I wasn't dissing y'all, just wondering about it since they obviously care quite a bit. I guess *one* character on a black ribbon is ok, just don't put THREE characters on that sucker. :D

No problem Wil.

I would have the same concerns if I saw someone else pull this cover out. Which is why I ran it past Wizards.

TD: Cover Design - Hinged and brushed aluminum

- More of a chrome. Not hinged nor brushed.

TD: Front Cover Art - Three figures with no background and a Black or Red bar running vertically behind.

- black box, not vertical bar. One figure with no background, not three.

TD: Back Cover Art - Three horizontal, monochromatic and sequential images stacked with a Black bar running vertically behind.

- only visible on the print copy (not yet available). Single black box with no images.

TD: Color Scheme - Red (M-87, Y-87, K-38 & M-87, Y-87, K-50) Black and White

- Close here, since our logo is red and white, primarily. But the actual cover design uses metallic type instead.

TD: Fonts - Conques and Cachet

- Don't have them on my system for a reason. :)

For the record, Quick Shots was written by Timothy Willard of The Brood, with additional content by myself and another guy - Hellhound just did layout, and publishing. We're flattered that you think that he did it, though. ;)
