E-Tools FAQ

You'd think that there would be more questions that were, uh, asked frequently. I'm surprised that "Why did you decide to destroy my life by guttin Master Toolz??" didn't make it on the list (if you've been to the official boards you see what I mean). :D

I'm not sure if this is a given with Win98, but it will be important that Etools users have installed IE 6 (I think some people with earlier versions had problems with printing and/or viewing stat blocks, our theory is that some sort of important driver is in there somewhere).

* sighs *

I guess it's time to upgrade from WinME to WinXP then.

And no, I really do not want to spend more than two hours online downloading MSIE version 6 with my 56k modem.

You know what, now that I'm thinking about it you might only need 5.5. I do know there was an issue with people who had Access 97 installed -- they needed to download some extra database drivers or something. (People with Access 2000 or no Access at all didn't have that problem).

Are they addressing the issue you just mentioned? Will they be able to correct it before it is released as a final product?

(Looking through old e-mails...)

Well it appears that computers with Win 98 and Access 97 installed had some older drivers that weren't compatible. Fortunately the following driver patches from Microsoft fixed the problem:

"Jet" stuff : http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_Jet4SP3.htm

OBDC: http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_270RTM.htm

From reading over the e-mails it appears that possibly that second one might not be necessary, so try just the first one and then if that doesn't help try them both. Also now that I look at the spec pages for these patches, they may already be in place on computers with WinXP.

Eric
