e-Tools Negotiation Update

E-Tools & PCGen will remain two entirely separate programs. They are not being merged. See threads in Publishers section here and in the E-Tools forum at WotC for more.

Quick note from Mynex about the delay of the announcement, for those interested. This in from last night on the PCGen Boards:

Well you can all start writhing in agony and burning me in effigy now!!!

There will be no official announcement tonight.

The Short: Apparently there is one person left to 'signoff' on the final contract, and through real life issues (ppl out sick, sick kids), this person has yet to see the contract to be able to sign off on it.

The Less Short: 1) Anthony's son is sick, gotta take the kid to the
doctor 2) Andrew Smith (Anthony's right hand guy) is out today sick, so it can't be passed to him to finish.

Nothing to do but wait it seems.

And yes, I find this exceedingly frustrating as well, but real life
happens, so we just have to go with it sometimes. *sigh*

I certainly hope Anthony's son has nothing serious.

FYI - Just seen on the PCGen mailing list courtesy of Mynex as I can't seem to submit the news to the main site ATM:

For Immediate Release (Finally!)
Hey folks! The big day is finally here, when we get to tell
you what you have been clamoring to know. Wizards of the Coast, Inc. and Code Monkey Publishing LLC would like to announce that all negotiations are finalized and all paperwork exchanged with the important monkey paw prints are in place!!! So, no more teasers or hints, here comes the real deal.
Code Monkey Publishing has agreed to provide a patch for
Wizard's e-Tools. This patch for the e-Tools program, which will fix
a lengthy list of bugs, will be completed and made available within
90 days to Wizards of the Coast (The bug list is below). Code
Monkey Publishing will also provide initial and continued support
for e-Tools through their website, ww.codemonkeypublishing.com,
which will be the Official e-Tools website henceforth. This means
the patch will be available for download from the Code Monkey
website, as well as providing forums for e-Tools discussion to the
public. All questions, concerns and comments addressing e-Tools can be directed to these forums starting right away, by choosing the Zoo Graffiti link from the main page of Code Monkey's site.
Additionally, Code Monkey Publishing, which is collaborating
with and guiding the free open-source project known as PCGen, has received permission to use Wizards of the Coast published materials for the creation of data sets, to be used in both PCGen and e-Tools. These will also be made available on the Code Monkey Publishing website as they are completed.
So there you have it folks, Let the monkey business
commence!!!

End quote

So there you go - CMP will henceforth take over support for eTools and provide a long-awaited patch, and in return the PCGen team get to make use of non-SRD material.

Sounds like a win for everyone to me.

Congrats all round to everyone involved for pursuing these negotiations in the face of excessive flak.

I can now go to sleep and not worry about missing the news. :)

There are a few more details in the Publisher's forum here... see the 6th message down in this thread.
Shouldn't he post the announcement here since this is the most appropriate forum when it comes to computer software and program?

It's about time. I was beginning to wonder if anything would happen with e-tools. I'm glad I didn't start using my disk for a drink coaster now.
