Gary also worked on the: Jedi counseling, Ultimate Adversaries, Starships of the Galaxy, Scum and Villiany, The Gem of Alderaan, Heroes of the Revenge of the Sith. He's done other stuff, but I don't know what. You can google his name and it spits up a few things.

The Beta version of e20 should be available around the 1st of March, just got an e-mail from Gary.

There are 72 backers and 6,500 pledged.

Just to clarify, it's actually the beta version of the e20 Lite document, not the e20 System rulebook itself (which will take the rest of the year to write).

When finished, the e20 Lite beta will be a broad overview of the game and its mechanics to give everyone a better idea of what I have in mind for the project. It should give enough information to see what a 1st-level character looks like (e.g. some sample talents for each class, a selection of feats, etc.) and a handful of low-level opponents, so you could actually run a very short and simple adventure to try it out.

No, nothing has changed with the deadline or anything like that. We still need to hit the fund-raising goal by March 15th or none of the pledges go through; without that, I wouldn't be able to afford to work on the project full time, so there would be no way I could possibly finish it until at least next year (if at all).

Its really what we're calling e20Lite, basically a preview to let people know who might be on the fence what he's really aiming at doing with the game so we have more to go on than just the barebones that's on the website.

It's a preview really, I wouldn't call it a beta myself. It's to show what he has in store with example Talent trees, Feats and his new Enhancement system and the various classes and overall structure of what it is right now.

The Beta version is to let people see a part of the product. I suspect if the funding goal is not reached Gary will disappear from the gaming industry or appear a few years later with the e20 game system finished. Who knows?
