e23 - an alternative?

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
e23, the online PDF store of Steve Jackson Games, is finally online.

So, for all you PDF publishers and authors: Do you consider e23 to be a good alternative?

I see Alter Ego Software, Atomic Sock Monkey Press, and Ronin Arts are already involved there...

I need to check out the site to know for sure, but in theory, the more exposure the better. e23 should, theoretically, tap into SJG's fan and customer base, which may mean new people exposed to e-publishing in general, and my stuff in particular.

So I'd say yeah, I'm interested. I don't see it as an alternative, but rather as an additional place to sell.

I'm very curious to see how well the site does. Besides having some product on it I also spent a lot of time working on various stages of the site (including planning meetings and discussions as far back as 1999). Though I am no longer with SJGames it was nice to see a very old dream project come to life.

Anyone know any details? What is their take? Advertising plans for the furture? How one signs up? If they are even interested in hearing from other publishers?

I looked around their site but couldn't find any of the above. :(

I agree with others here, more stores the better.

Bill

As it looks now, e23 seems more geared toward support of sjgames products than toward being a storefront for all PDF pubs. Perhaps when they integrate it with Warehouse 23 it will not feel so "house" oriented.

It's on the FAQ page:

Q. I'm already publishing my own digital game material. Will you sell it in e23?
A. Maybe! We'll be glad to evaluate what you have published and see if it fits our store. Please contact manager@warehouse23.com for more information.

They're definitely interested in getting more publishers on the site but (my opinion/thoughts) the appearance won't change when it's integrated into W23. If you go look at W23 you'll notice that they carry a lot of products from other companies and it's not easy to find them.

I emailed them for info on their terms, and already replied to their request for info on my company. Right now, I really don't have anything to lose by becoming a vendor with them, and do stand to possibly gain, so it's a good opportunity for me. The interface could certainly stand to be improved, I agree.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

I wasn't talking about ease of use. I was talking about "feel". The other pubs' stuff seems to be there as an afterthought. I'm sure they don't intend it to feel that way but that's the impression I got when I first looked at e23. I'm not a general user of w23 so I didn't realize they were similar. I'll look again eventually. (Or at least in December when I have to resub to Pyramid :) )

W23 is/will be carrying the print editions of our Horde Books, and I emailed e23 expressing interest in selling the PDF editions through them as well. Will let you know when I learn more.
