Easily print scaled maps?

I've been playing online quite a bit and one of the nice things with that is that you can easily import a map from a published module for combat. Howeveer, for ftf games, I've tried to print the map images for use with miniatures in our table games and the results have been less than spectacular. The scale is hit or miss and never all that close to 1"...and the larger maps dont break up well into sections to place on the table.

Is there a program that makes that process more user friendly? I know there is a yahoo group that uses the dungeon tile images...but that just doesnt seem to foot the bill and I'd much prefer to take the map image from my pdf, import and print....

anything close to that out there?

I've used Poster Printer at the Poster Printer Directory Web Site.

I''s a print driver that lets you rescale and crop before it actually goes out to the printer. Used it to print out for 1inch grids and for those small old school traveller miniatures, cause I needed a LARGE ship in toto on the table.

Thanks for the great suggestion...seems to be exactly what Im looking for. How do you arrive at the right scale...trial and error or is there a WOTC standard that seems to work for you?

I think that would be different for every map you wish to scale, since most maps are made to shopw a given area and then the scale (or grid) is drawn in proportionally to suit what is needed. If you come up with any tip[s for using those poster printers while on your trial and error quest, be sure and post them in this thread where they can easily be found again.

I print a draft of the original. Measure the square, then scale up. It's still a fudge but on the table if it's close it's cool.

Generally I edit and tweak maps in MS paint. Copy to MSWord, have word stretch the image to the scale i want. Print out on 11x17 paper.
