Easter Eggs?

Under the acrobatics skill, one of the acrobatics stunts described is riding a shield down a staircase, which I think refers to Legolas in the LotR movies.

Played in a campaign where a gnome player did something like that. He used a spare shield as a sled and went down a rocky slope. Unfortunatly, on his third balance check, he fumbled. Promptly, he and the sled lost control and they both rolled down the rest of the length of the slope, until they finally reached the edge and tumbled into a chasm for massive damage. When it was all said and done and the shield finally clattered to a resting position, our characters heard one thing echo up from the chasm: "Owwwwww....." (He survived with "1" hit point).

We laughed our asses off for a good 5 mins.

Ahh...Good times... ;)

I wouldn't count any overt references as "Easter Eggs," so one can leave out the mentions of iconic characters like Strahd von Zarovich and others in the DMG.

I'd count as an "easter egg" any offhand reference, depiction or mention that lacks context. So "tenser's floating disk" doesn't count but Regdar in the art does. That said, I spotted a few during my read-through.

Mialee is given as an example of a female elf name, and Soveliss as a male eladrin one. Interestingly, if that's true, the iconic characters were playing "against type."

Also, "Nebin" is mentioned as a name for male halflings, obviously an allusion to the 3e iconic gnome.

There were a few more in the DMG, but it's at home, and I'm not. :)

I don't know if you'd consider it an easter egg or not, but some of the art in the DMG references adventures.

The ones I recognized:

- Drelnza's chamber from S4 as seen from the balcony
- Forge of Fury cover battle with 4e characters
- one of them looks like the recent caves of chaos picture from a different viewpoint

There are a couple of others that are too vague to be definite, but they seem familiar.
