2) Read the auctions carefully.
QFT. I don't know if this is urban legend or true story, but when the PS2 came out, there was an ebay rush (like there has been with the PS3 and Wii recently), and someone auctioned off a PS2 box. Yes, just the empty box. Just like the auction said. No fraud, just a sucker of a buyer, and an ethically...flexible seller.

I've heard of the same thing happening with an XboX.

It was a black box with a painted green "X" on it.

Not sure if that's true, but that would suck, bad.

cheers,

I've never heard of that but I don't doubt it.

I'd like to get on Ebay to sell some of my stuff. I'm desperate to get rid of my pokemon cards, hopefully they will sell.

I love Gmail's spam filter.

My favorite part about G-mails spam filter is when you clear it, you get the message "Hooray, no spam!" which reminds me of the red stripe commercials. :)

Oh, and about the Eberron books on the cheap--it may be legit.
Before Christmas (actually, before Thanksgiving), Joe and I saw a lot of WotC hardback books that had been out around or less than a year at Half Price Books. They sell books like that for half the cover price, so if someone is buying Eberron books from WotC at a similarly discounted price and selling it on Ebay, could be the real deal.

I like the fact that my news banner on the top of every Gmail page turns into Spam recipies when I'm looking at the spam box. It freaked me out the first time I saw it, then I thought it was the best thing ever! :)

Yeah, I always find my D&D (Eberron and others) books online cheap, both eBay and elsewhere. I think I've only paid full price for a book once, and that was because I wanted to give it as a gift and need it fast, so I was forced to find it at the local store. I got the Eberron Campaign Setting from an online store that sold college text books for $12. With shipping I think it was a little under $15. I thought I was getting a used book at that price, but it was pristine! It even had the CD in it! I was awed that I got a new book for that price.

To add my two cents,
You will likely get a message from a seller asking you to do a transaction outside of ebay. For gods sake don't.
This happened to me in my first auction. I lost the auction and the seller sent me an email saying that he had another copy stored away that he hadn't listed. I could have it if I paid what I bid in the auction. Being a noob I got suckered and received an incomplete item as a result with NO way to recover my money.

Ebay does have a warning against this so I have only myself and some mystery theif in the UK to blame. I've actually received a total of three of these emails in my last three years.

eBay does actually have some feature now that allows selling items to a non-winning bidder. I think it's called a "second chance" transaction or something. That's okay, but don't ever do anything outside of eBay because then you lose any protection provided by eBay. Make sure what you're doing is protected by eBay or do it at your own risk (and be aware that if someone wants to do it outside of eBay they usually have a reason, and it's probably to rip you off).
