[Ebb] Ro/Cl/SS - Help with New Character

FreeXenon

American Male (he/him); INTP ADHD Introverted Geek
I would like ideas on improving or shoring up the character via mechanics, story line, or role playing. I have a good idea on how to play this, but I am going to need a little help as it is a Lawful Good Changeling Lay Priest.

This is an first level Eberron campaign starting Sunday (November 10) .

My character is a Lay Priest of the Sovereign Host/Silver Flame (History will explain this). Lay Priest meaning non-spell casting. I am playing a changeling social rogue with the Rogue Substitution level (via RoE). Through this I have access to Knowledge Religion. I should have all of the skills to (for all intents and purposes) to be a Lay Priest.

Since I am going for the Lawful Good Rogue/Cleric/Shadowbane Stalker I thought I would get some feedback from you Brilliant ENWorlders on how to play a lawful good Rogue/Cleric/ShadowBane Stalker. ;) .. and also class class/feat progression and anything else helpful you might have.

I have included the entirety of the character (unformatted below) and attached a DOC file with the formatted character.

The other characters are me , a Warforged Artificer, a human Monk (going for Dragon Mark Heir), a Dwarven Fighter, and possibly a paladin or Soul knife (he is rather undecided).

Thanks,

History
Shortly after I was born I was left on the door step of a small Sovereign Host church in Vinsten and the on-duty lay priest (Friar Corbin Carrith, H, Expert) worked as an agent for a very small sect within the Silver Flame called the Heart of the Flame. He took me in as his own son, raising me as a loving but stern father. Every summer we went and did some 'missionary work' where we would meet up with 4 or 5 other children and we would play games and learn from all of our mentors all in preparation for carrying on in their stead, but his is not something that we knew. During these times we would go to a nearby village and help out; sometimes with the others, and sometimes on our own. Be in the end there would be a mission that we needed to accomplish with our new skills.

During the Last War I spent most of my time along with the members of our church helping the community to defend itself from the predations of Sahuaguin and Karn forces. My father had me concentrate on detailing officers and spell casters. I spent a lot of my time sticking up for the locals and when the situation allowed I killed a few soldiers of my own. Violence is not always the answer, but it is sometimes necessary. Our small village has gone through a lot of rebuilding in the 2 years following the Treaty of Thronehold. We have worked hard to rebuild our small village and to establish our self-sufficiency and sense of community. There is still a sense of tenseness with the expectation that something bad is going to happed, but that is going away slowly.

I long for a kinder and gentler Flame and believe that I can better serve the Flame by embracing the more subtle side of the Silver Flame. I wonder what happened to the other children and my other mentors. My father and I have stopped going on our joint pilgrimages. I have been told, and have done so, that I am able to do missionary work and pilgrimages my self now. I am ready. I have heard of this Heart of the Flame and I am not to speak of it. Someday I will understand.

The war brought much death and sadness to many innocent people. I have watched as babies, women and the elderly have been cut down for just being there. Not caring about the war and not wanting to have anything to do with it. I have seen homes and lives destroyed while tending to this town. War has naught but brown pain and sorrow upon the common men and women of Khorvaire and that is a tragedy.

Ideology
Laws, tradition, and etiquette are in place to protect, guide, and benefit the common man and the use of such to trap those who do wrong is well meaning and appropriate as the common man may not have the strength or knowledge to do so in their own defense. I am gifted with the knowledge and ability to protect the weak from oppressors and enslavers and those with a malign will.

I am honest and forthright to those who that I deem are as well. Once it has been determined that someone bears ill will and intent the gloves come off as they must understand in the golden rule - 'The Flame of truth may cleanse as well as burn.'.

The standard Flame priests and zealous paladins of the faith server their purpose well, but sometimes a gentler more subtle hand is needed to serve the faith and the peoples of Khorvaire better. Honesty and truth can sometimes cut and wound deeper that any sword or spell.

I teach the Flame's wisdom as told from the perspective of the Sovereign Host. The truth of the Flame an be found in the wisdom and teachings of the Host. I believe in the Host and their existence and in the truths that they espouse.

What you show to the world is not necessarily the truth that is in your heart. What you show to others and what you feel and believe may not be the same.

Notes
Exalted Traits: Helping Others, Charity, Healing, personal Sacrifice, Mercy, Forgiveness,
Bringing Hope, Redeeming Evil, Just Cause, Altruism, Good Intentions,
Temperance

History of the Spear "Truth, Not Tolerance"
During the last war you successfully interrogated a Kharnite Military captain into telling you the exact route a skirmisher party would take to infiltrate Aundair. You proceeded to take some sappers from the local mines and setup a demolition of a key bridge while they were crossing resulting in them retreating back into Kharn. As a reward you were given this spear.

Lawful Good, "Crusader"
A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished.
Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion.

Urban Tracking [General]
Community Size DC Checks Required
Thorp, hamlet, or village 5 1d3
Small or large town 10 1d4+1
Small or large city 15 2d4
Metropolis 20 2d4+2
Conditions DC Modifier
Every three creatures in the group being sought -1
Every 24 hours party has been missing/sought +1
Tracked party "lies low" +5
Tracked party matches community's
primary racial demographic +2
Tracked party does not match community's
primary, or secondary racial demographic -2

You can track down the location of missing persons or wanted individuals within communities.
Benefit

To find the trail of an individual or to follow it for 1 hour requires a Gather Information check. You must make another Gather Information check every hour of the search, as well as each time the trail becomes difficult to follow, such as when it moves to a different area of town.

The DC of the check, and the number of checks required to track down your quarry, depends on the community size and the conditions:

If you fail a Gather Information check, you can retry after 1 hour of questioning. The game master should roll the number of checks required secretly, so that the player doesn't know exactly how long the task will require.
Normal

A character without this feat can use Gather Information to find out information about a particular individual, but each check takes 1d4+1 hours and doesn't allow effective trailing.
Special

A character with 5 ranks in Knowledge (local) gains a +2 bonus on the Gather Information check to use this feat.

You can cut the time between Gather Information checks in half (to 30 minutes per check rather than 1 hour), but you take a -5 penalty on the check.

Aye, you'll get more response in the General or D&D Rules forums. I would suggest changing the first post's title to include (Mod please move) or somesuch.

Bumpasaurus Rex

OK, so the thread is moved to a more appropriate forum and I am looking for input and insight!

*Bump*

I'd start by figuring out his outlook on life as a changeling. Races of Eberron has some great RP material for anyone who wants to play a changeling.

I kind of get into that with the Ideology section of the character (listed in the sblock below)

What do you think? I am hoping this still qualifies as lawful good, but albeit from a unique changeling perspective. He is basically acting as a sleeper agent for a secret sect of the Silver Flame called the Heart of the Flame.
