[Eberron] Exorcist of the Silver Flame

Did anyone else see Mat Smith's Eberron update detailing the Exorcist of the Silver Flame prestige class? I don't see any other threads on it yet; if there are such, mods please feel free to zap this one.

To me, it looks a little powerful. Of course, I was in the "Mystic Theurge is vastly overpowered" camp when that prestige class debuted, and I have since recanted. So I certainly may be wrong here, too.

But the Warding Flame (at will, +2 sacred bonus AC and saves, SR 25 vs. evil spells and spells from evil creatures), even though it's at level 10 in the class, still seems more powerful than other "level 10" abilities in prestige classes (such as Disciple of Asmodeus, whose "level 10" ability is similar but clearly less powerful, in my opinion).

And Detect Thoughts at will? Yikes. I can bet a lot of DMs would house-rule that out without even thinking about it.

Not to mention smite evil, darkvision, an extra 2d6 of holy and fire damage with your weapon, and the ability to (sort of) turn evil outsiders like undead. And on top of all that, you get a d8 hit die and near-full divine spell progression (only miss 1st level, so you're only one level behind, from what I can see). They ought to throw in a Ronco closet organizer while they're at it, this guy has everything else.

Of course, this is better than the old Sword and Fist Halfling Outrider. That poor guy didn't even get a BAB listing, IIRC.

We also don't get to see their BAB or Saves, so I'm guessing they end up with a Cleric's BAB and probably similar saves (hopefully not all good saves).

He doesn't gain additional turn undead ability; he gains an ability to stun/banish evil outsiders like a turning attempt.

He does gain a lot of DR-penetration types over the course of his levels (four), but they all work towards making him very deadly against evil outsiders (good, silver, and law), not not much else (other than magic). This could be a problem, depending on the hard stats of the class.

He get butt-kiss for skills, which is good.

All of his martial talent against evil outsiders is tied to one weapon; sunder or steal the weapon, he's toast. This can be just as much a drawback as a boon.

I'll reserve final judgement on the class for the book itself (to see the stats and the complete treatment of the society in the setting), but overall it doesn't seem too bad at first glance.

Yeah, I know what you're saying about sunder or steal the weapon. That's true. On the other hand, that applies to a lot of fighters, as well, and they don't have a near-full progression of divine spells to fall back on. So I wouldn't say the Exorcist is exactly toast if you negate his weapon, although it does hurt, no doubt.

Definitely hoping that Eberron isn't undergoing a FR-style power-up here. Nothing wrong with that if you like it, I just was not hoping for it in Eberron. I'm still looking forward to Eberron of course. You're right that we don't get to see all of the Exorcist's stats, so we'll have to wait and see.

Eh. This isn't any worse or better than Sacred Excorist was in 3.0...well maybe a little more powerful. But still.
