Eberron: Help me set up a long term plot thread

I like the idea of throwing out various false leads and hiding a few gems with her. I'd most likely do this with dreams, rather than memories (or supressed memories), though I'm going to try and do a fair job about relating dreams of all the PCs often enugh to hide a few gems of information amoung the detruse of the subconcious.

Great ideas, keep 'em comming.

A good trick with "dreams" (which I am stealing from Of Sound Mind) is to write out the dream, let the player read it, then take the write-up sheet back. Having to rely on their their memory of what they read will be like trying to remember the details of a dream.

I never said she had to look especially fiendish, with horns and a tail, or be evil. Besides, somewhere in the Knights of Thrane there has to be at least one person who is a disciple of Sun Tzu. Know your enemy and all that. Besides, she's essentially helpless, right? Since tieflings just don't have dragonmarks, you'd think finding one would be enough cause to study her.

Anyway, tieflings even have the ability adjustments that would fit right in with the concept.
And I just don't see an aasimar or serpent blooded person... I mean, if this person is
supposed to lead to another war, why would you want to make them all nice and holy like?

As for class... I'd say wilder or favoured soul (of the Dragon Below, because of the dreams). Alignment would be neutral or good though, I imagine. There shouldn't be anything that
overtly sinister about her actual personality.

According to how the XPH is incorporated into Eberron, the Reidrans turn their criminals or political captives in Elan when they want to make an example of them. The Elan have their memory wiped down to a blank slate in the process.

An elan found in the manner you're describing for introducing the character, would not necessarily be associated with Reidra, as they don't advertise what they do outside of their own land.

Perhaps something went wrong with the process and flashes of the elan's former life start infiltrating her dreams. You could introduce all manner of red herrings and vital information through those flashes.

I wouldn't want to go the route of an Elan, since that is too much of a tie to Riordan, however the 'next step' of Cannith's plan woulnd be interesting...

The girl is found in the remains of a Creation Forge, and has a mark on her forehead similar to the mark of a Warforged... a mark that acts as an Aberrant DragonMark.

Mechanically she could be a Living Construct {Augmented Humanoid}... and her dreams of life before being re-forged could be recollections of the time right before the Mourning... or they could be plants by the Dreaming Dark.. or simply the imaginations of the 14 year old soul that was tied to the body... :]

This backstory can cover the reasons she has the 'Shard like eyes and any odd abilities can be linked to the 'Mark

..and who knows, perhaps the Dreaming Dark are simply using an actual Cannith success that was overshadowed by the Mourning!

Here's how to make the Dragonmark creepy: it starts as a normal Aberrant Dragonmark, but it changes over time. (Because it's really the Mark of Chaos or something cool.)

If there is a dragon nearby, her Mark changes color to match the dragon. If there's more than one -- or if it's somehow a polychromatic dragon -- the mark has more than one color.

I think that would be taking the relationship between dragonmarks and dragons a little too literally. Dragonmark are a function of the Draconic Prophecy, and the Prophecy is or is not a function of the Progenitor Wyrms, which means the influence of mortal dragons on dragonmarks is probably limited or more likely, non-existant.

... UNTIL NOW!!! Mua-ha-ha-ha-(etc.)

There were nine others born with similar marks.

This mark will eventually allow all the power of an Orb of Dragonkind.

She's going to become a living artifact.

I know the OP is trying to minimize any ties to Reidra, but Elan are not known outside of Reidra so the association would take quite a bit of research and provide another plot point to even discover.

The reason I suggested an Elan is because of the way they are created in Eberron. An Elan in Eberron is made from someone who the Reidrans considered dangerous to their plans within their own country. That someone could have been a heroic spirit with a fully active Sybaris mark. The process of turning that person into an Elan causes the mark to go dormant, but it is still fully visible.

Imagine how many plot twists and covert groups would be interested in studying someone who has an actual Sybaris Mark without the powers that go with it. The Houses and the Dragons both take a very dim view of anyone faking a Dragonmark, but this person doesn't have a fake Mark.
