The word "extreme" makes me want to vomit.... :(
I had high hopes for Eberron, but that word alone is nearly enough to kill it for me.

OOOh! Another Eberron Alarmist post!

I'll bet you three hours worth of my time spent proofreading future ATS netbooks that none of the PrC's in the core Eberron book will use the "extreme" descriptor.

Do we have a wager? No downside for you. And the netbooks need the proofreading.

I hope and pray you're right. However, both the Extreme Explorer and Extreme Ranger are mentioned in that link. I hope the author (or I) misunderstood something, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he (I) didn't.

No bets though, I'm well aware that it's too early to know anything for sure. If nothing else, maybe Wizards will change the names.

It's just that this whole "Extreme" thing that popular culture has gabbed hold to in the last few years has grown way out of hand and it makes me sick to think of our hobby succumbing to that.

I hope I'm right too! Otherwise the cheese factor will be much higher than my tolerance level. I'm confident that WoTC is smarter than that though. They have done enough Market Research to realize who their target market is. I'm hopefull the "Exterme" tags are just placeholders.

RE: The proofreading thing. I very much enjoyed the first Midnight netbook, and seriously meant to email you and offer my time for proofreading the next one. Shoot me an email or a PM if you are interested in taking me up on my offer.

Ash,

How dare you look at other settings?

Quick, get back to AtS. If you really have to look at something else remember that Dawnforge should have won the setting search. ;)

However, I have to agree with the use of the word, "extreme". It reminded me of a particular group of teenage girls in high school who wanted to be known for their "outrageousness" without becoming too "outrageous". Anyway, perhaps Eberron will soon have mountain bikes of speed and similar....

BFG -> Thanks. I'll keep you in mind.
Really glad you liked the first one. Sadly, due to real life issues, I'm afraid my involvement in the production of the second will be greatly diminished. Still, it's going to have some great stuff in it.

Now, back to our regulalary scheduled thread:

"Hip" and "Trendy" slang has no place in the D&D setting! ;)

Yes, it's time for us to have our "geek pride" marches.... ;)

And, yes, ToS V2 will be cool. Any idea when City of Shadow will arrive as I want to make sure a couple more things I am working on don't contradict that?

I had to. Midnight is too EXTREME to run every session. My players requested we alternate and occasionally play in a setting that didn't make their characters contemplate suicide as part of their daily routine.

*shrug* pansies...

The second I saw the "Extreme" thing, I knew critics would be all over it.

I've really loved almost everything I've heard about the setting. It seems like a well thought out setting with lots of depth and complexity. It's a shame that so many people will write it off thanks to descriptions like the one serving as this thread's title.

But as for it being a raw, not final prestige class, tell me: why would they hand out a prestige class--complete with flavor text that describes the prestige class as the archetypal PC of Eberron--if it wasn't their most polished, up-to-date stuff? I'm sure the Extreme Explorer will be included in the sourcebook as is. If other action point-boosted PrCs aren't called "extreme," it will be a last-minute change.
