Eberron vs Greyhawk

Howdy!

Does anyone know if Eberron is outselling any of the other D&D settings? One of the dealers at a local convention claimed that WOTC dropped all the new Greyhawk stuff to expand the Eberron line. This would have been the first I heard of new Greyhawk stuff.

Greyhawk is dead and we should all move on. It's just there for name's sake now.

The largest living campaign ever? I'd call that far from dead.

Exactly. One of the great things about Greyhawk is (was) that it had just enough information to make it interesting but was basically left in the hands of the DM and players. It cold actually become your campaign!

I tried FR when it first came out, but quickly grew tired of everything being contradicted by the latest novel, sourcebook, or computer game - I like the Realms, but it seems like every square centimeter has been mapped out and described already. I get the impression that Eberron's headed the same way.

Eberron is nae my cup of tea. Greyhawk is fine, but the Forgotten Realms has captured my heart when it comes to published settings. If I could, I'd like to actually live in Faerûn.

I don't think so. Sharn: City of Towers isn't heavly mapped. It has a map, but it's not mapped to the same detail City State is, it isn't even mapped to the level Lankhmar is. Though it is closer to Lankhmar: City of Adventure in terms of geomorphs and such. Also, it remains to be seen wether or not the Eberron novels will introduce a meta-plot or not. I'm hopeing not, but it's too soon to tell.

Of course, I'm immune to meta-plots.

What time period is that? I find it difficult to believe RoE and LoM have both sold better than any of the core books.

It's a bestsellers list, which would be a weekly thing. ROE and LOM sold more copies in that one week then there were copies of the core books sold in that same week. Weekly lists are useless though to try to get an idea of how many people actually have or use it. 90% of all books are sold within 6 months of release, that's why you see slightly older books like Complete Adventurer and Complete Arcane higher up on the list then Complete Warrior and Expanded Psionics Handbook, yet below new books like Races of Eberron. What you need to find are the numbers of books sold since they were released in order to get a picture of how popular they are.

I've never participated in a living campaign, but I do use their materials. RPGA membership is free now, you know. Might as well take advantage of it !

I could be wrong but I heard since Ebberon is the new flagship setting a Grayhawk Campaign setting book is coming.

That could be cool if it did one book the scale of Forgotten Realms CS book with crunch for 3.5. I might even buy it out of curiosity.
