Eberron - who all submitted to the novel call?

Wow, a lot of mournland stuff going on. Well, I guess if you have a mystery, people will want to figure it out.

Y'know, WotC is pretty smart with these open calls. I only was interested in Eberron because I wanted to see whose idea beat everyone else's. With the novel, I'm sure hundreds of extra people will buy copies because they want to know who beat them. *grin*

I submitted to Eberron, the new Open Call is a bit too open for me (no word count idea, nothing to give a hint, and you have to write the whole thing before finding out if you're close.)

Most novels are in the 90K word range.

Shopping a novel around to almost any publisher requires you to have the novel completed before you can sell it. The WOTC novel open call is really no different. In general, you send sample chapters to a publisher, then if the publisher is interested, they ask to see the novel. WOTC is doing the same thing--send sample chapters and an outline, and if you're a finalist, send the whole novel.

I understand the process for prospective authors, but for an Entry Based thing like this, it seems to be off a bit.

I think the only real difference is that WOTC is presenting it as a contest, and are selecting the winner from a pool of finalists. Even then, they make take a close look at the other finalists anyway, since they're looking to start a whole publishing effort as opposed to publishing just one novel. I'd say anyone who makes it the finals has a good chance of getting in with WOTC, whether their novel is the first selected or not.
