ECL for Spell fire in FR

Interesting.

Do you think counterspelling would work like that? Er, I'm sorry, rather that the reactive counterspelling feat would affect your spellfire ability to absorb?

Would having that feat allow you to use it with a rod of absorption do you think?

I'm not sure my DM would see either that way.. What do you think?

Hehe. I was browsin' around and lookie what I stumbled on. :)

Jeremy, on second thought, no. Also, I think someone just downright proved me wrong about this matter too, I just can't remember who it was. I don't think Reactive Counterspell would apply to Spellfire. I ended up making a feat that worked just like Reactive Counterspell but it only applied to Spellfire use.

On the main topic: No ECL adjustment.

If Spellfire is worked as intended, it's not really all that useful because of the need for a readied action. Additionally, everyone and his brother is out to get you if you make you ability public, which further goes to control it.

I wouldn't take the feat, myself. It's too hard to use, and it adds one more thing you have to keep track of for your character.

Basically, it's well-balanced, but partly by role-playing restriction that the DM must enforce - thus the need for DM permission. Without those restriction it could be a bit powerful - but I think you'll find it's nowhere near as powerful as you think when it's actually used in practice.

Try it out as written before trying to tweak it.

This reminds me of folks complaining about how this or that core class is overpowered in theory - when in practice it all works out pretty well, each has their strengths and weaknesses.

I've used it with NPCs before and it never seemed terribly unbalanced. It's not very often that readying an action is worth it. Also, when I gave NPCs the feat, I made the assumption that they weren't power-gamer-NPCs and that they wouldn't ask their NPC buddies to fill them up using 8th and 9th level spells. ;)

The reason I needed to create a new feat was for a prestige class. It's actually not a feat at all, but a class ability of a spellfire prestige class. Worked out pretty slick too.
