Ecology of the Deathknight up

Here it is.

Now, I forget who said it, but it was said there would be 4e Easter Eggs in the Dragon cover/deathknight picture.

Here is the picture.

Any

It was ok. But what really bugged me is that if I go over to the Wotc site I am not logged in, except for when I follow the link you provided. So that leads me to think that you just provided me with access to your Wotc site account. You may what to fix this. It would not take much to screw up your account over their.

Zombies are referred to as "dim-witted." Not "mindless."

Solves the problem I've had with mindless creatures from the beginning. How do they decide to do anything without intelligence? You need some intelligence just to interpret orders.

He was later moved back to Dragonlance. Weis and Hickman maintain that he never went to Ravenloft, so take that for what you will. ;)

One thing I don't like about WotC's approach to things is that they tend to take setting-specific elements, then generalize them for a broader audience. I can see why they do that, making things more accessible to a broader audience, but it takes out what makes those things unique for the setting.

Oh, well.

Soth is still your Soth and my Soth. WOTC can't change that. This is just a new Soth for a newer audience.

Actually, the background is apparently closer than I thought it was. I was thinking only of Soth's second wife (the elf). I didn't know any of the background about his first, as I stopped reading DL stuff before that material was revealed.

So apparently, the background's only off by a few tiny details, not nearly as much as I thought it was.

But it's possible that the DC's are no longer Hit Die based. This might be one of the more "free form" aspects of monster design... rare monsters have higher DCs. Period.
Actually, the DCs for Knowledge checks aren't based on Hit Dice any longer, but on CR. This was the case for both the MMIV and MMV, and is listed on p7 of the MMV as an official rules change.

One thing this new artwork does remind me of is World of Warcraft.

Not the in-game art, but the promotional material.

The level of detail, the skin tones, the glowy magical energy "look".

Look at the glowing sword on this page, for instance, or compare the armour on this night elf and her cats to the elf and the death knight, or the broken and draenei in this wallpaper.

Obviously, different artists, but the clean/complicated aesthetic of World of Warcraft's promotional artwork seems like a clear influence on this stuff.

(Also, I kind of hate the way that elf is just kind of floating there, with no weight, no sense of motion, is she falling on her arse? I guess she's looking at her holy symbol, but she sure seems unconcerned about the bloody death knight raising its sword above her.)

The floaty thing is annoying, for certain. Is there something wrong with the perspective as well? I know she's meant to be foreshortened, but when I look at her legs they don't seem to match the top half of her body. And her right leg seems quite a bit longer than her left.

How do we know that isn't an Eladrin?

While the glow around her makes it look shopped, the blue light from the sword is reflected on the death knight's armour.
Her blue outline is probably a buff spell.

TBH, since the computer tech is there, is it not a GOOD idea to just make an illo of the monster, then just shoop in some so called 'hero'? The artist makes a wonderful monster, saves the file, then copypastas some numbnut sample PC into the pic.
