Blame TSR and WOTC for that. . Originally there was only five, in FR. Moon, Sun, Wild/Wood (this is been split into two different subraces in 3/3.5e), Aquatic, and Drow.

I'll repeat what I said on the Wizards boards:

The world of Castlemorn is a world of ancient ruins and long, undiscovered races and locals.

That sounds a lot like the Forgotten Realms.

Darkness pervades the cities and castles, and an evil walks the land.

Only one evil? Then it's different from the Realms after all.

One is to point back at my last answer to the list about the multiverse of linked worlds (the "multiverse" name usually gets credited to Michael Moorcock, by the way, but the idea is much, much older than modern fantasy, and I even borrowed some of the proof of that: I had the Wood Between The Worlds [from the William Morris novel of the same name] in my multiverse, as a "common ground" shared by many of the gates), and draw the obvious inference that (as Damian suggested) you can of course use the one setting with the other. Once you see Castlemorn, you'll readily see why. I designed it to "easily fit" with many already-going medieval fantasy worlds, and if it doesn't quite stitch neatly onto yours, well -- that's why there are gates, right?

Damn, it is a setting book so more than likely I will be picking it up. FR was interesting when it came out but soon lost that glitter, like a movie of the same name. I think I will wait to see what the reviews look like before I pick it up.

I know this is a bunch of products, I am looking forward to. I miss Ed's FR material, since all we get now in FR material is half a book filled with MORE spells, prestige classes, magical items, monsters, etc.

I hear the new FR Player's Guide for 3.5 will have a new elf race called Keebler elves. Apparently these elves are the most vicious to come along yet.

Only if they make cookies that are evil, and every one gets fat on them. HEY that's how we can kill off all those NPC's, they get fat on the Keebler elves cookies, and have heart attacks. Who knew.
