Did the big setting book come out at GenCon?

It was just the Player's Guide, which is sort of a preview. Only $5!!! Plus, it comes from Margaret Weis Productions.

As mentioned above, the actual setting comes out in November.

Any way to get it without signing up for their website?
Probably not (at least not legal). One of the reasons DTRPG hosts free downloads like this is to get people to sign up, showing them that it's not a big deal to get PDFs instead of hardcopies.

Two unrelated yet on-thread comments:

I've never had *any* unwanted e-mail related to DTRPG, and they have some great freebies sometimes. I think I've only payed for one download from them in 2 years!

At the beginning of this Castlemourn supplement Ed basically gives a little spiel about enjoying creating new worlds and playing about with ideas, so this is just a little offshoot concept, not anything to do with being dissatisfied with FR. Skim reading it seems okay, but nothing earth-shatteringly novel.

Too bad it doesn't include the Thaele racial stats to illustrate the NPC from the intro story. The other racial stats seem fine variants from my first glance over.

Nice preview. Intriguing setting, if it is fleshed out well. Great use of fiction to draw us in. I'll look at it for sure when it comes out.

It looks very nice, but.. was there really a need to come up with different words for the compass directions? No, no there was not, particularly when the text uses the real words as well - it's just too confusing.

I can tell you right now that I could play in Castlemourn for 20 years and never be able to parse the following sentence:

Running from Sparruk in the sarrind to Khalandorn in the sekhovynd, a knife-edged ridge (riddled with caverns and clefts) forms the western border of Khalandorn.

I like the racial ideas, and love that elves and half-elves glow.
