I admit that I'm surprised.
Given the negative reviews, the negative online press, and the start of the Galactica thread, I expected a more negative result to this poll.
I see I was wrong.
And I see that Battlestar Galactica will become a regular series, having passed the Nielson Ratings. So hey, cheers. :)

I was kind of surprised too when most of the reviews came back positive. The reason there's all this negativity about is because of a relatively small but vocal crowd of fans of the original series who have been damning this since its inception. People who go into it with the notion that they're going to evaluate it on its own merit have generally come away very happy... no, excited about, not only about the mioni-series, but about the prospect of a series to follow. Those who went in expecting it to be the original and had already prejudged it were understandably disappointed.

I loved the original and I've caught the reruns; I think I'm even getting the DVDs for X-mas, yay!; but I recognize that the original Battlestar Galactica had a time and a place. What we have now is something based around similar concepts, but it is not the original show. This is something that is grittier and more realistic than the original. It blows away the standard scifi fare that we've all been getting sick of because its so sugar coated. This is something that doesn't pull its punches and is willing to go into some dark places. It is honestly the series that I've been waiting for them to make. Just as important as the scifi elements is the very human story that it tells. I feel that human drama is soemthing that a lot of scifi chooses to ignore, to its detriment. Since this should go to series after getting the ratings, I'm actually excited about the prospect of TV again.

I was excited and disappointed. Coming from a background of theatre and film they broke rules regarding being seen and heard. To many distracting camera shots of back of heads and distant shots of character interaction. The rubber science and outdated terms annoyed me to no end. Yes I was a fan of the old show but I had an open mind regarding the new outlook. I liked some of the characters and hated a few others and was also ambivalent about the other half. Technically I would rate the professional level of production as below par and some of the actors average, with the exception of big name actors like Olmos and Mcdonald. I rated this as adequate but below par. I will look forward
to the next installment and judge from there.
