Well, one thing is for sure; once D&D Next is released, ALL of our previous Editions will become obsolete... or at least under-supported (or unsupported). That ought to help bury the Edition War hatchet. Looking forward to the open Beta testing. Too bad they didn't involve some of us who have been playing/DMing for 30 years... could have had good & meaningful input.

That's the whole point of the open playtesting. And personally, I'd call this more an alpha test than a beta- Mearls estimated that the game was only about 10% done a month or so ago.
Good to know & thanks for sharing that info. Seeing as the playtesting stands the potential to affect what all goes into the final product, it is my hope that as many dedicated players as possible get signed up to do so. I'll graciously donate my time and expertise for free. Like most of us, my time is valuable to me... but if I can help make a game I love better, I'm willing to donate it and some effort to the cause.
