Effects of grease.

I'd rule casters can do just fine on their backs, as long as they aren't being grappled/pinned/etcetera.

You can still concentrate, you can still get components and perform verbal and somatic actions, and still use focus items when necessary.

I'd still give him the standard concentration check for vigorous motion during the fall, though.

Most games I play in pretty much ignore material components. But, as written, Grease would be a problem for spell casters because it may cause you to drop anything held, including spell components or foci.

So the answer depends on how seriously you take the "M" in the components part of a spell description.

Grabbing small things with slippery hands is not a huge problem.

...

Stop looking at me like that. I only know it because I cook.

I wouldn't go past the -4 for attacking while prone for the area effecting grease if an attack roll is needed (although I do wonder how much hard it is to point the finger from the ground compared to standing up). No Concentration required other than the vigourous motion for falling as mentioned above.

For casting on a person the spell description states +10 to escape from a grapple, or they drop item(s) if fail a Ref save (need to make each round you try to grab the object).

If someone was to try to pick up an item already on the ground when grease was cast, I'd probably use the REF save

Actually, you only take the -4 penalty for being prone on melee attack rolls. So your Bestow Curse spell might miss more easily, but your Enervation targeting is unaffected.
