Egg of the Phoenix - your experiences?

First Post
Fourty-fourth thread of a series on the old classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. It is interesting to see how everyone's experiences compared and differed.

Did you Play or DM this adventure (or both, as some did)? What were your experiences? Did you complete it? What were the highlights for you?

Note: Unlike most "supermodules", this was a compilation of 4 originally unrelated modules. This thread is open to discussion of the supermodule or the individual modules.

The super-module was a poorly linked piece of crap.

There was lots of good stuff to mine in this adventure - but as a complete series of adventures it suffered from the same problems that most modules of that period and later did - i.e it was around the time that Dungeon magazine adventures became clearly superior to all modules. . .

I had fun running players through this. They were quite amused when the skull of Mackurcan was discovered while traveling to the remote past.

The scenario finale, where the elemental evil lords and titans, and Doc, and a whole bunch of other stuff fight while the PCs are there was a bit fo a mess.

In the fire giant stronghold, with the various gates connecting sections, I neglected to remember that gate and a sphere of anhihilation don't mix very well. So we did a "reset" after realizing that.

what the frogman said.

I read through it, but never ran it, largely because what el-remmen says is true. Some of the encounters and plot elements were worth stealing, but as a whole it just didn't work for me.

I'd never seen the RPGA covers before, good stuff - but now I've got this strange urge to play Paranoia.
