EL level of a group of creatures?

Howdy, all...

I'm confused, or maybe it's just that I'm tired, but I need to figure out what the EL will be for a group that the PC's will be encountering tomorrow, listed below.

Please help!

1 - 6th level druid
1 - 2nd level ex paladin
1 - 2nd level wizard
6 - 1/3 cr monsters.

What would the actual EL rating be for this encounter, please?

I'd say a 7...

Two CR 2 creatures = EL 4
A CR 4 and a CR 6 creature = EL 7.

I'd call the CR 1/3 creatures insignificant to the EL.

My EL spreadsheet calls this encounter EL 8.

That's also reasonable if you look at it as: 6 x 1/3 CR = EL 2; 3 x 2 EL = EL 5; and then EL 5 + 6 ~ EL 8.

Anything between 3 and 14 of the CR 1/3 monster shows up as EL 8, so you're just a little bit on the lower side of the 8 category.

Please note that the ex-paladin should probably be treated as being one level lower. So about EL 7.

6 - 1/3 cr monsters = EL 2

Now CR 1 x2 is EL 3. CR 2 x2 is EL 4. So this encounter is equal to EL 2 + EL 4 + EL 6.

EL 2 + EL 4 = EL 5. EL 5 + EL 6 = between EL 7 and EL 8.

So I say between EL 7 and 8.

Did you subtract a level from paladin, and if not, what does it say if you do.

I'd say it would only be an EL 8 if there are situational modifiers that make it tougher for the pcs (environment or whatnot).
