Elemental Races

Ok Now I need a name for a creature that is about human sized. They are natural earthbenders but mean. I may include Badgermoles from Avatar so I need a different name. I've been trying to find a mythological creature to use here but no luck. Basically I wanted to have a few creatures with natural elemental magic.
I've used these things in a game to great effect but I didn't name them at the time and the players just called them Diggers. Unfortunately they keep on talking about them in public and one of them keeps mumbling so it sounds like something else.

Rub two stones together for a speech-to-text app for the Native's word for themselves and use "Diggers" for the Commoners slang?

What flavor of earthbending diggers do you want? Furry? Reptilian? Insectile? Elemental?

Well, as you've already pointed out, something based on a badger (or other mustelid) or rodents would be the obvious choice for Furry earthbenders. Less obvious, but still appropriate, would be something like a rabbit, porcupine (a personal fave), skunk or wolverine. Or even a new creature that combined elements of a few of those.

Something based on reptiles: look at monitor lizards, snakes, horn toads, tortoises/turtles and even certain crocodilians.

Something based on insects: take your pick- nearly every branch of the arthropod family- with the possible exception of butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies- has some creature that burrows.

Elementals could be as simple as a scaled-down stonechild or cooled-off azer, or something as alien as xorn.
