D&D 4E Elements and energies in 4e

Any rumors or speculation about whether we're still going to get the old ideas about elements and energies in 4e?

Will there still be an association between each element and an energy type?
Will there still be an opposite element to each?

Because frankly, I think these are a kind of sacred cow that never really worked well and is worth to consider changing.

Actually, I want them connected to the elements--I *want* the fantasy world to have it's own 'Magi-Physics' rather than be 'Real World Physics + Magic' (I had enough of that back in 1st ed!).

Atone point I started working on this: Acid was Fire + Water, Lava = Fire + Earth, Lightning was Fire + Air, etc.

I never followed through on that. Too many other things to do!

The funny thing is that it is the supreme power only because they didn't create enough monsters resistant to it..

NPC "They just found a bunch of new monsters resistant to sonic damage

wizards NPC: Weird. all my sonic based spells are just gone a level lower. :)

But really, as long as they remove acid as an energy type I'll be happy.

I'd rather that air spells were about wind, flying and things like that instead of lightning.

Also, it's not like the current types of energies have much to do with real word physics... ;)

That is actually one of my least favorite things about AE. It created a bunch of new damage types with little return. Sure now I can model an earth elemental doing earth damage, but the amount of new protection spells and damage spells I need to create that was not worth it imo.

AC & DR is what should should protect against earth elemental attacks. A Magic spell that hurls a big rock at you should opperate like a giant hurling a big rock at you.

That's exactly one of the main problems I have in mind. If I play an "air mage" I want to control the wind and the air, not just blow things up... with Airballs :D

Otherwise I'll play an Electric Mage... mixing up elements and damaging energies (except Fire which is both) is just wrong...
