There isn't really that much difference in experience between us, unless you are DMing the first time. This situation isn't simple as abusive as one can think, because it depends on the available resources, too. You have to consider, that mages shouldn't fire only the most powerful spells being available, because in the core rules the spell slots emphasize more the middle ground regarding the spell power.
Furthermore, to say it more explicit, if you have more fights per day, then the players learn quickly, that this kind of buffing is too exhaustive and will probably lead to a (T)PK*. And being not able to prepare for the battle is another hindrance, which reduces the abusiveness further. This is ultimately under the control of the DM - of you!
BTW, if you are starting a new campaign, then you can simply apply the rule "MP limit = number of HD". This change will become official, when the PDF will be relayouted - but when this will happen... I suspect, that we can wait another half year at least, but that's only my opinion and there is no word, official or not, when this will actual happen.
Ah, you should change Extra MP from caster level to hit dice and Extra Spell List to Extra Spell Lists with 2 spell lists. How do I know that? I'm a playtester, so I get a sneak peek of the next generation.

*This reminds me of an AD&D game, where the paladin healed all wounds he sustained himself and another warrior, thus using up all healing capability. My wizard died nearly at this battle, because he got into the negative hp. Only a successful healing check saved him. Problem is, that we players never really learned to fight as a team afterwards, so this problem was still somehow around - at this time at least. I'm wondering, if my group, where I play, is better now, but we still haven't had a fight since the begin of the campaign - ten sessions or so ago. But it is still fun - the most important rule of this game.
