Elf, Myth Drannor, War - what class?

Thomas Percy

First Post
It will be single game session only at new DM.

His old PCs are 10th level group including all four "core" classes. The PCs will fight monsters to liberate Myth Drannor for elves again. I will be elven "warrior" in this war.

What class(classes, templates) you advice to play?

Specify the source (WotC book only), because I'm not fluent in the classes.

Thanks for help.

So you're the "fifth wheel"? Do you have to be a warrior-type, as the fighter-style slot has already been filled.

At 10th-level, I would suggest (from the PH) fighter or maybe fighter/mage, from the DMG fighter/mage/eldritch knight, or maybe (from the PHII) duskblade. (Note: I haven't even seen the PHII and know nothing about the duskblade; it might not be balanced or whatever.)

You could go for commander duty, too. The marshal class from the Miniature's Handbook or the Noble from the Dragonlance Campaign Setting. You could even go with a fighter/bard, but you'll want at least 8 levels of bard to get some good inspiring courage going.

But I think the real question is what concept do you want to play? Even if you have to be a warrior, there's a lot of concepts. Are you going for something unusual?

Bard for a war?
I won't have a PHB2 at next monday (it will be tomorrow).

Eldrich is good choice for an elite soldier of Cormanthor elves.

Any other ideas?

Which clesses and feats are good for elven archer?

If you want to make things go Boom! perhaps try a Warmage from the Miniature's Handbook?

Or perhaps, a Sea Elf Druid with amphibious companions if you think much of the game will take place in a wet area. Having a second healer/fighter never hurts I imagine.

If you want to help boost your friends, perhaps a Paladin/Marshal (also Mini. Handbook) multiclass would be beneficial, as well as somewhat sturdy.

My vote would be for an Elven Warmage with the Battlecaster feat (both in Complete Arcane) who wears Fullplate and a Longsword... for those rare times he actually runs out of spells.

Fighter makes the best archers. Pointblank, Rapid shot, Coordinated Shot (heroes of battle), Farshot, Shot on the Run, etc, etc.

actually I think a Bladesinger would fit very well.
I believe there are several versions of Bladesingers out there...

...I remember one from Tome of Blood (3.0), one from Races of Faerun and I am pretty sure there is one in Complete Warrior.

I'd suggest the PHB2 duskblade, which does the quintessential "warrior using magic to make himself better". Call him a bladesinger, since that's effectively what it is.

I would go with Ranger, definitely, focussing on the Archery path. Take as your primary favored enemy Evil Outsiders, as Myth Drannor is CRAWLING with them. Back-up favored enemies could be Humanoids (Orc or Goblinoid) or even Humanoid (Drow). Make sure your primary favored enemy is maxed out at +6 damage, as that could guarantee overcoming DR in most cases. By packing a magical quiver with a butt-load of cold iron or silver arrows, you can make the most of your archery skills against the minor fiends, leaving any bigger baddies for the fighter (assuming he has the proper magical weapon).

Stay with ranger, as multi-classing won't really get you much in this kind of campaign. You get evasion, which helps against some of the spell-like abilities that the fiends toss around, and you get more skill points than anyone except the rogue, which will shore up any deficiencies in needed skills.

Get a Holy Composite Strength Bow, and a melee weapon with Bane (evil outsiders) and you're set for some serious crusading!

(On a role-playing note, given how long Myth Drannor has been lost to the elves, you could easily have been training for this moment your entire life...which is why you've had the favored enemy (evil outsiders) since first level.)
