From looking at all of the above posts, I'd have to ask for some clarity before I can provide a concise answer. Are you wondering which is better from the standpoint of racial advantages? Or are we just talking about personal preferences without regard to effectiveness? I think the basic concept of playing a superhumanly-agile warrior with razor-sharp senses is appealing, but naturally that appeal is diminished by the elf's favored class. Dwarves are designed to make good fighters, halflings are good rogues, and half-orcs make mighty-fine barbarians. Elves don't have the package to be a good wizard. In fact, their Con penalty is a detriment to a wizard's most vital skill, Concentration. I recall Tom Baker's line from that horrible movie: "Humans use magic, elves are a part of it!" Seems to me it would work better to make Sorcerer their favored class, then give them a Charisma bonus. Now that meshes nicely! You want a class to have wizard as a favored class? Give it to the race that's known for having hyper-intelligent crafters, engineers, and dabblers in magic and mad science--gnomes! Drop the lame Con bonus, jack up Intelligence instead. It works. Try it.
