[ELH, Does this work?] Not your grandfather's tarrasque...

My ELH is in the mail, so this may have changed, but the playtest doc seems to indicate that an L24 Druid can pull of the following trick.

Using the feats Wild Spell and Quicken Spell, the Epic feats Guargantuan Wild Shape, Colossal Wild Shape, and Magical Beast Wild Shape, and finding a way to consistantly get himself hasted (not a problem for a char of that level), it seems that he can...

Wild Shape into a Tarrasque, with every ability except the fear aura, AND be able to pop off a regular spell and a quickened spell per round.

Does this work?

Mine just came in yesterday and I haven't looked up all the details, but it seems like you are right. (the prereqs might push the druid level up a bit, not sure)

Mind you, that's a Tarrasque with a LOT less hit points than "normal"...

Edit-Oops I missed the prereq of Beast wild shape.

You need to have a wis of 25+ also 4 epic level feats so you need to be level 28.

I don't have my MM with me but you will get of the T's supernatural and extraordinary abilities.

Oh, ok...the next epic feat is L27, though. In the playtest version, you couldn't have the supernatural abilities, though...only the exceptional...but thats not a problem...the only supernatural one is the fear aura, which isn't that good.

Most DMs interpret the wild shape rules so that the druid must have studied or observed said creature in order to understand its qualities in order to be capable of wildshaping into it.

I don't know how often you plan on observing a Tarrasque.

Well, after I found and killed the nest of the mom and 5 babies up in Cleveland, I saved one and raised it in captivity. It was little hard during the teething phase, but over all it wasn't that bad. :D

Something tells me that it won't be hard to find reference material on what is billed as the most legendary, singular monster in the world. Thus, it will be easy to fulfill the study requirement.

Also, doesnt polymorph self (wild shape is "as polymorph self...") have a limiting factor that you can't choose something with more HD than you? I, personally, would not count it as having the 15HD max (because that's just silly), but I think that the having to have as many HD as what you want to turn into rule still applies...

But what if it isn't accurate? What if you have conflicting information? I can have a lot of fun with this as a DM. :D

I'm gonna violate the cardinal rule of this forum and post a rule opinion without checking the book, but I believe that you can only wild shape into critters with your hit dice or less (As an aside, I can tell you that Shifters work this way). That would mean the first time a Druid could experience the joy of Tarrasque-ness is 48th character level. Check the wild shape write up in Masters of the Wild.
