(ELH) Metamagic feat idea...

What level modifier would you asign a metamagic feat that changed the Spell Resistance aspect of a spell to "No." ;)

It would require all the Spell Penetration feats and like 25 ranks in Spellcraft or so...

There's another thread on these boards (in this Forum, I think) that discusses a KoK feat that changes the save to "None" (for a +4 increase). The general consensus in that thread is that the feat is broken "at any speed" (the discussion went as high as +8).

What you're proposing closes one of the major safety valves in spell design. Consider what would happen if you applied this to Hold Person, or something similar.

My gut feeling is that it should be at least +9, and +10 sounds about right.

Envelope the Wall (a KoK feat) gives a +2 to SR checks for every +1 spell slot. A fireball in a 9th level slot has a +12 to SR checks.

I think a feat which flat out disallows SR would be unbalanced in any kind of epic campaign. Pseudonatural SR's can be through the roof (5 Sr per HD)- a +6 or +8 to overcome an SR of 100 is just too good a deal.

Many Epic level nasties rely on their 50+ SRs to survive and be able to duke it out with the PCs. If you cut the SR out... Well just be sure you are ready to face the consequences. Many of those big guys can be felled pretty quick after you drop the SR out of the equation...

However, I do think further penetration feats are not out of line. I perfer there to always be higher effects though. Suppose some creature had an SR of 100. Some 20th level epic wizard should probably not be able to go flame the thing just cause he has a feat and a +10 spell slot. Then again, maybe he should. Each to their own. ;)

I dunno, it was just an idea that occured to me as I was working up some NPC stats for my campaign... very few of even the "epic" spellcasters (even with all 3 spell-penetration feats) have much of a chance to get through alot of those SR ratings which kinda blows IMO...

That KoK feat doesnt sound *tooo* bad... which book is it from?

Some of the ideas that were thrown around were...

to create an Epic Spell that gives the caster a bonus to Caster Level checks for a certain period of time...

or to possibly have the Spell Penetration feats stack as a house rule...

or to make the aforementioned Metamagic feat... personally +10 does sound about right to me... but perhaps the Epic Spell route combined with the addtion of the KoK feat will solve the perceived problem...
