Elven Chain +1?

Man ! Do we have scholars on this board or what !

I'm impressed guys. Your previous editions rules references gave me a nice nostalgia trip !

The 2ed does not mention anywhere (that I can readily find) that elven chain is made of mithral, and nor is it (in 2ed that is) IIRC (it certainly isn't mentioned in the DMG).

It was made of 'elven steel' in 2e.

Arms and Equipment Guide, I think.

Yup.

Arms and Equipment Guide, page 30, 'Elven chain mail is the only form of armor made of a legendary elven alloy, a light-weight silvery steel of great strength.

AD&D 1st Ed. Unearthed Aracana features elfin chain mail +1 through +5 on p. 88.
I remember back when we were starting to adventure in the original ToEE. We all made new 3rd-level characters for the campaign. Instead of rolling on the random magic item chart for a couple starting items, I asked the DM if my elf character could have a suit of elven chainmail. We had never seen or had elven chainmail, so I thought this would make my character just a tad bit more exotic.

But then one of the other Players rolled up the starting items for his PC randomly. Because we had just gotten the original UA, the DM allowed rolling on those new charts. This other character ended up with elven chainmail +1. Errr.

Then a few game sessions into the ToEE, we found the elven chainmail +1 in a treasure stash (the harpies I think).

So within half-a-dozen game sessions, my "unique" armor was outclassed. Twice.

<sigh>
