elves:flawed logic

Well, of course the attitude and behavior vary based on the individual. I was merely speaking of elves in general. Also, how many people have ever actually TRIED to train a cat? Who knows, they could be very good at hunting and guarding. Especially if they are being trained by elves. :)
Also,Also, I misused the phrase tree surgery for lack of a better term, so I'll elaborate. Once upon a time I read an article in a magazine were this guy created bridges, arbors, and other cool stuff from trees by carefully bending and weaving them together so that they actually grew into the desied shape.

Am I the only one who thinks it strange that there are elvish hounds as opposed to elvish cats.
I mean think about it. What are dogs known for (ideally)? Loyalty=Lawful, right? Now what are cats known for? Free-spiritedness=chaotic, right? Now what are elves known for? free-spiritedness,right? So it seems to me that elves would empathize more with cats than dogs. Also, I've never read anything about elves using tree surgery.
just a thought :) ,

Nothing will drain the life out of a race faster than ruthlessly applying its three word high concept to every facet of their culture.

You make a good point. The only thing I can think is maybe they don't care so much about sympathizing with an animal as making them good servants and stuff? Lazy people like elves would definately want loyal dogs as servants. Considering how you would lack for loyalty from your own people, you'd feel a need for it stronger than ever from man/elf's best friend. It's like elves are catlike enough to be around so you don't need cats?

I was able to train our barn cats to not put their feet in the food bowl. I accounted this a major feat, actually. Later on, Mom trained them to jump up to the porch railing for their evening treats, which had the side benefit of making sure the dog didn't steal the cats' treats.

We did manage to inadvertantly train one cat to rub herself on the sliding glass door into our living room so we'd come out and give her leftovers and pet her. The terribly imaginative name given this cat was Door-Rubbing Cat, or Doorie.

I like dogs and cats, i vote for versions of both!

Cats are real men's pets. They only eat meat and sleep 18 hours a day. ;)

Oh, and staying on topic, elf druids turning into great cats are the only dogs/cats/whatever elves need.
