Elves lives in trees...OK, where do they go during Winter?

Elves living *IN* trees, now that's actually viable--after all, Dryads live in trees, too, and what about other Sylvan Faerie creatures such as Pixies, Sprites and the like? I've been inside of some particularly large trees and they are indeed quite cozy...really though, the Evergreen thing is also a great idea.

But this business of Dwarves with underground cows that eat fungus and using skylights (well, I admit, I used something like that for an underground room, but its on a very small scale, something where the sun flows through quartz crystal to photosynthesize a few plants) to grow fodder for their livestock??? They must really perfect some prism-reflecting technology in order to provide enough solar power to feed more than 100 dwarves...do we even have that kind of technology now?...with Elves you can say they use magic, but do dwarves?

Pigs do sound somewhat viable, since they'll eat anything, presumably the dwarven fecal matter too. Which solves another problem I was wondering about...

And what exactly is wrong with elves living in trees in the winter? Most WotC supplements that I've seen show them building actual walled houses up in the trees after all, so it's not as if you can claim some lack of shelter.

An excellent point, and I'm glad someone remembered that D&D's elves actually have building skills. They don't fear winter weather anymore then humans do.

Dwarves have Stonecunning, so their crystalline prism is legendary. Furthermore, even if they were, in Great Old Editions From Beyond The Dawn Of Time, forbidden to practice arcane magic, they had clerics back then who casted spells, too.

Mostly, depends on your world- since some don't feel it (magically- they all have endure elements greater :))
some only live in the season of thier race (Tolkien's elves in Autumn of thier race for LotR)
some don't live in just trees (lots of elf races I have heard though hombrews or books live in nature, but not in the trees)

Also I have never seen an elf live on a tree branch & that's it. They have windows, walls, clothes all which can be adapted to winter like weather if need be.
