Dwarf. They're mechanically stronger, easier to empathize with, and a lot more fun to play.
Elves listen to Enya, Dwarves listen to Tankard. No contest.
/Dwarven Battle Mug for the win.

Actually the debate has been rather amusing, but i will admit the two choice original poll was inane.

Seriouly, except for yes/no, every poll should have 5+ options.
You know, everyone thinks they have a sense of humor, but it's not actually the case. ;)

Elf.

I, too, take isue with the way that elves have been portrayed in the various novels, particularly those friggin' Dragonlance books. Prior to them, I don't recall anything in the various texts that indicated that elves as a whole were arrogant dicks.

Grey elves may have been arses and Wood elves were somewhat isolationist, but that didn't matter for the longest time because you couldn't play one. Drow were just monsters and Aquatic elves were useless, so who cared what their attitude was?

Then along comes Dragonlance and everyone assumes that because DL elves are colossal jerks, that all elves are colossal jerks.

The High elf was a pretty mellow breed, venturing out into the wide world to see what they'd been missing back in their treetop forest citadels. And what happens? They take the brunt of the guff that Greys and Woods more rightly deserve. "Oh, youse elves is so arrogant" and "You obnoxious pushy elves think you're so hot" and "Go back to your forest before we burn it down, elf!", makes me just wanna say "Hastur Hastur Hastur" in frustration!

...oops...

My option isn't there, so I voted elf.

My option would be "I'm for people stopping with their silly racism against one race or the other and start thinking."

It's gotten old. Every 9 days on average, the elf haters and the elf fanboys and the dwarf haters and the dwarf fanboys gather and repeat the old crap verbatim. Then you hear how dwarves are so great because in 3.5 they made them overpowered, and how elves are so bad because in AD&D, they were overpowered. You hear how dwarves are so great because they hate so many races (like kobolds and elves and orcs), have bad manners and vices and know nothing but work and fight, and how elves are bad because they're aloof and "always arrogant" and appreciate the arts, and do magic and are so weak (translation: Not all of their traits are just bonuses or excuses for roleplaying a bad-mannered jerk).

Both sides have bad offenders - the only thing I can say that it's been years since I saw a true elf offender, but dwarf offenders are a dime a dozen, both in our games and on the boards.
