Allow me to second "Legends of Avadnu", from Inner Circle Games. I purchased it a couple of weeks ago, and it's probably the only 3rd-party Epic supplement I've seen. It's well-written, mechanically solid and features some truly interesting monsters with lots of roleplaying potential, including suggestions for how to fit them in to their own setting or others. The Epic feats are, as mentioned, an excellent addtion to any DM's lexicon.

Shame on you. You know you're not supposed to publicize links until the product is validated for sale....

Good one.

Did you insert any new material into these rules?

Naw. This is more of my own "Best of..." picks of OGL so far (and it will grow a bit). Of course it is only material from print books (wouldn't make sense to me to repackage as PDF that which is already PDF) and it isn't wholesale mining of OGC from any single source. Just bits and pieces that fall into my own parameters of "best" which means new rules to cover areas that aren't covered and that don't rework any of the rules that are at the core (we'll leave the latter to the next edition of the "Great Game" as it is sometimes called.

Now I don't know if this will sell as well as the compilations of OGC materials put out in the past by Green Ronin, Mongoose, Expeditious Retreat, or any other company, nor, I dare say, the upcoming Monte Cook "Best of" 2004" but it does and will collect some of what I believe to be the best OGC available to date.

(I'm looking for some new ideas to help me with some of my own projects . . . I know what I want to do but just haven't puzzled it out.)

I do intend to utilize the OGC in the Variant Rules Pack 01 for some of my own future projects, as a basis for my own redeveloped OGC or transparently so in it's current form but with expansion or additions. That is the nature and the beauty of the OGL, of course, not having to reinvent the wheel. Keep an eye out for more in 2005 and I'll be sure to make it plain in the sales text that stuff is new (ALA "3 new organizations", "2 complete NPCs with backgrounds", a reworked partridge in a pear tree", etc.)

Black Company:

Background: Used in other settings but none that I'm currently using/owning.

Jack-of-All-Trades: Core class that is good at skills.

Ranger variant: Non-spellcasting ranger.

Scout: Wilderness based rogue.

Are all of those from Black Company?

Bad Axe Games - Grim Tales

Blue Devil Games - Poisoncraft: The Dark Art

Inner Circle Games - Denizens of Avadnu

All great books! I would recommend them to anyone wholeheartedly. I would add Legends of Avadnu to that list (also by Inner Circle Games), too, though.

Also, please don't forget you can get Poisoncraft: The Dark Art on sale now for $12.95 at Indie Press Revolution with FREE Priority Mail shipping within the U.S. on orders of $25 or more. It's really the best gaming book on all things poisonous (concoctions, monsters, spells, etc). I'm trying to get people to look at it because I think it's an EXCELLENT book that has been widely overlooked.

Being a big fan of adventures, I am a little disappointed no adventures seemed to have made the list. There have been a lot of great stuff from Necromancer Games, Goodman Games, and others. In fact, my own World of Whitethorn 1B: The Village of Oester was nominated for a 2004 ENnie and has been getting me a great deal of wonderful feedback.

Troll Lord Games - Castles and Crusades

I'm really excited about this system though I am also waiting for the player's guide. I don't much about it, but Castles & Crusades sounds like a lot of fun.
