Enchanter: Specialist Wizard or Psion?

First Post
One of my players wants to play an Enchanter (mainly because she plays Everquest 2) and I was originally building the character for her as a specialist wizard. While working on a Psychic Warrior for another player, I started thinking, would a telepath or shaper better suit the concept?

Telepath is a much better Enchanter than the Enchanter, sadly. This is due mainly thanks to the nice class skills that the Telepath has and the Enchanter doesn't, plus neat Telepathy powers. IMO, the Enchanter should have the social skills too (and don't even talk about the UA variant where you have to give up all the feats for them :() since Enchantment is pretty weak anyway.

Telepath 5 / Thrallherd 9 / Anything +1 Manifester 6

You only lose 1 caster level (putting you at sorcerer levels) and you get a horde of replacable people. Thrallherd has no alignment requirement, so you can be good if you treat your hordes well.

I second... or is it third... the Psion Telepath. I too am playing one and also plan to go Thrallherd either next level (10th) or definately by 11th...

Wouldn't a Wizard Enchanter with a single level of Mindbender work?

Adding the feat from Lords of Madness that lets you know the location, intelligence, and type of creatures within the range of your telepathy would also be useful for such a character.

What sort of things does the player want to do? What is the concept?

'Enchanter' is a bit broad, and I havent played everquest in any incarnation so I am unsure what they did in that.

If you want to be able to buff the party in many ways then the wizard is much better.
If you want to control others minds directly then the psion tends to have the advantage.

As for other general use abilities it again comes down to, 'what does the player want to do?' This question must be answered for a definative one way or the other.

For an even more powerful character one could grab a cleric with appropriate domains and feat choices from a few different sources. Best enchanter around at that point ;)

signature EQ Enchanter abilities: Mana Regeneration (ie, restore spell points) Haste, Charm, Mezmerize (ie, Daze or Hold Person) ... not sure what else.
