[Encounter] Bones of the Beast (level 1)

dangerous jack

First Post
I worked on this encounter and monster (Yeti sneak) for my group, and we thought it went over pretty well, so I thought I'd share it. It's set along a path through some snowy hills and is formatted as a 1-page, delve style, level 1 encounter.

I'd be interested in any feedback.

That seems pretty cool!

My only criticism (if you can call it that) is the snow drifts: they're described as the "white squares" but the map is made up of a lot of white squares! I'm guessing that you're talking about the white squares atop the brown trail squares.

The brown with some white squares were intended to be normal terrain. So (only) the solid white squares are difficult terrain. There are definitely a lot of them, but that was intentional (although perhaps a naive mistake). The map is intended to slow the players or confine them to squares near the path, while allowing the yetis to easily move around them. Although the hills probably didn't need to be completely covered in snow.

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

(I realized that I included the wrong image file. The correct one should have a 4th yeti sneak 4 squares south of the leftmost one.)

No harm in editing your post with the correct image, right? And if you felt exceptionally punky, maybe even clarify the difficult terrain with a bit of color tweaking--?

Otherwise, I enjoyed the Side Quest....err, Encounter. :)

I've updated with the suggestions and moved things around a bit. Hopefully it improves clarity...

I see it more as a random encounter rather than a side-quest, since it doesn't really lead anywhere. IMC, the PCs had this encounter on the road through the mysterious & dangerous Dragonwood (of course, there are no trees on the map :-S). Fortunately their perception rolls to track the yeti were so awful that I didn't need to come up with a lair on the fly. But unfortunately, the cleric just had to roll a 20 on his Nature check and discover the trap the round before he stepped in it.
