D&D 5E Encounter building

I plan to have a main bad guy a CR14 Death Tyrant but I'm bad at math and don't know what level the group will need to be in order to defeat it.

Could you guys help me out?

It really depends. For a 4-person party at 10th-level this will be a Deadly encounter (by the numbers) which means one or more PCs could die. The higher the party level from there, the easier the difficulty becomes. See Chapter 3 of the DMG. You can also use an encounter building tool like this one to help you run the numbers.
