Encounter Help: Time Loop Problems?

First Post
I am seeking help with straightening the kinks out of an encounter I plan to use someday.
The system will be GURPS Lite with a few extra ads and disads and house rules. This isn't as important as getting the consequences and idea right.

Now.

The scenario will be.
The PCs, a small group of security guards are traveling by company-assigned van to a remote data storage site to retrieve some data. They are on their way and are armed with handguns, shotguns and have a relatively small amount of survival gear and ammunition (25 rnds for each of their weapons).

They stop at a roadside diner for lunch. While inside, they are confronted by Jack Witt, a local bully. (See the www.thegamemechanics.com Dinner and a Show Freebie Modern Interlude) He doesn't want to get killed, just to punch someone out.

Right after the PCs deal with (punch him out, taser or pepper spray him, hopefully) Jack, a Time Wight (a variant Wight, found here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20030620a )

will enter the door of the diner and attack...someone in the bar. Here is where I need help.
I'm thinking that the wight attacks several people in the bar.

If anyone is turned into a wight, the loop activates and the PCs are driving down the road towards the diner, a few minutes away. If they don't stop, the loop resets.

If a PC is turned, the loop resets. I'm thinking that the PCs need to save someone in order to escape the loop.

Help!

Has anyone done anything like this before?
Does this seem like an incredibly bad idea, like it will just seem like a big unsolvable puzzle to the PCs?

Yes.

Mine occured in a demiplane time trap (because I hate the thought of real time travel). I had a loop that was reset on a regular schedule. All players came back regardless. The trick is, if they DIED, they lost their memory of the previous "loop". So, players should soon realize that if they ever all die (which was a possibility with the forces I had arrayed against them), they would be stuck forever.

I talk about this adventure, and its resolution, here:
