Encounter Levels for large parties

Plus the great/supreme cleavers feel good about themselves, as do the casters with AE spells. I've got 2 supreme cleavers in my party and the glee on their faces when they got to slaughter more than a dozen vampire spawn was worth the 3 minutes it took to stat them up. Plus it gave the real threats camoflage and made them stand out when they didn't just turn to vapor.

I have this theory of the EL mechanics

when calculating what is the best EL to throw at your party and to calculate your party level, you treat your party members as the monsters.

So, in your case of seven of 3rds, you use the table to see what is the encounter level of the party. Then you reverse the reading, using the new encounter level to find the appropriate encounter level for 7 monsters of CR 3.

Just a theory, havent had enough players to prove that it works yet. Would you like to be my experiment ?

I had that same theory - it does work, MOST of the time, there will be times when it doesn't. At lower levels its okay, but around 5 - 7 the CR to EL conversion ends up with the too powerful party OR too powerful adversary senario...unfortunately I learned that the hard way. But its a good catch on the theory, it just a number table afterall.

It is important everyone has something to do. If only half the party gets to kill something, some folks may start to feel unneeded.
