Note that you can't refresh spell slots expended within the last eight hours. This is a pretty big disadvantage to those clerics who restore their spells at dusk - either they go nocturnal and use their spells during the night, or they'll effectively halve their spells per day.

That's why i went mystic theurge. I had spells to burn, just at a lower level than other casters. Plus, one encounter after dark isn't enough to completely tap a smart cleric. But the two encounters during the day can be.
