End of Editions?

Except the sales numbers directly state that the exact opposite has happened. 3.0 out sold all previous single editions and has brought more people to the hobby than ever before. It may be that the ".5" might show to be a plateau for sales, but another possibility exists. We may find that even more folks come to the hobby, and that a lot of players previously shy about becoming DMs see this as an opportunity to stretch their imaginations and give it a go. I'm optimistic about this new edition.

I must say this idea has some merit. I had been running games for my group for about 8 years without a break because no one else would dare run the game for fear of not knowing the rules well enough. Since 3.0 I have had a chance to play in three seperate campaigns, all of them short lived but it was a nice break.

As top another company buying DnD in the future, its certainly a possibilty, and the two companies named would be likely contenders. Mongoose would be another one.

White Wolf buying the game could have some unusual ramifications. Alignment? Gone replaced by nature and demeanor. Vampires would be a class as well as a template (I likey). Humans would really be the least powerful thing i the game and everyone, I mean everyone would wear black leather. :)

When 2nd Edition was produced TSR lost 50% of its customers, according to Gary Gygax. 3.0 brought many back into the fold as well as bring in "new blood". Is it a toss up what will happen with 3.5? I have no idea, but I DO know I'm buying the new 3.5 books. :)
